Conference Call with Gen. Effie Eitam

Conference Call with Gen. Effie Eitam

One
Jerusalem
held an hour-long blogger’s conference call yesterday with
General Effie Eitam, a senior member of the Knesset’s Security and Foreign Affairs Committee with an extraordinary background and history of service.

It was an extremely informative conversation, worth listening to in its entirety.  Here is what he said at 37:33 – 38:30 of the recording:

I think that what happened in Gaza is quite a good message:  that enough is enough, and that both the capability and the will to stop [unintelligible] from terror, which seems to be undefeated and unstopped, the capability and the will are back in the region.

But a lot has been left to do, because
Iran
still has the feeling that the world will not find the determination and the unity to stop their nuclear project.  I want to make it beyond any shade of doubt:
Israel
will not allow
Iran
to have nuclear weapons
.

He went on to explain why Iranian possession of nuclear weapons would be an existential threat (whether or not they are used), why containment will not work, and what he hopes the Obama administration will learn from the
Gaza
situation as it relates to
Iran
.

Bloggers on the call included Anne Lieberman of Boker tov, Boulder!, Pamela Geller of Atlas Shrugs, Omri Ceren of Mere Rhetoric, Ted Belman from Israpundit, Avi Green of Telchai Nation, and Jerry Gordon of Iconoclast and Ralph Kostant of The Hedgehog Blog.  Beginning at 54:32 of the recording, there is a emotional exchange between Anne Lieberman and Gen. Eitam that serves as a remarkable cap to the conversation.
