Examining U.S. Aid to the Palestinian Authority

The House Foreign Affairs Subcommittee on the Middle East and South Asia held a hearing today on “Promoting Peace? Reexamining U.S. Aid to the Palestinian Authority.”

A video of the hearing is here. The Chairman, Steve Chabot (R-OH) gave an opening statement in which he stated that:

We are rapidly approaching a watershed moment in U.S.-Palestinian relations. Both the reconciliation government [of the Palestinian Authority and Hamas] and the pursuit of a unilateral declaration of independence at the UN could not be more contrary to U.S. interests in the region.

The hearing featured testimony by (1) Jacob Walles, Deputy Assistant Secretary of State, (2) Lt. Gen. Mike Moeller (U. S. Security Coordinator), and (3) George A. Laudato of the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID).
