I Read the New York Times Today, Oh Boy

Yesterday on his blog, Andrew Sullivan posted this as the "Quote of the Day:"

"The Jews in Central Europe welcomed the Russian Revolution . . . but it ended badly for them. The tacit alliance between the neo-cons and the Christian right is less easily understood. I can imagine a similarly disillusioning outcome."

Well there you go:  One of the little-known lessons of the Russian Revolution . . . don’t associate yourselves with religious people who support Israel.

Sullivan took the quote from an article in yesterday’s New York Times by Chris Hedges, reporting on his interview of historian Fritz Stern.  Hedges was last seen being escorted by Rockford College officials off the stage after his commencement address to startled students and parents, which began with the following:

I want to speak to you today about war and empire. . . . [W]e are part now of a dubious troika in the war against terror with Vladimir Putin and Ariel Sharon, two leaders who do not shrink in Palestine or Chechnya from carrying out acts of gratuitous and senseless acts of violence. We have become the company we keep.

As anyone who knows anything about the Russian Revolution would have predicted.
