Last night one of the great modern Rabbis, Joseph Telushkin, spoke at Sinai Temple in Los Angeles about his new book, “Hillel: If Not Now, When?” (reviewed here).
In the short video below, he addresses one of Hillel’s teachings (“The bad tempered cannot teach”) in a unique way, and then illustrates another one with a remarkable experiment with the audience.
It is an indication of how powerful the experiment was that, while he was conducting it, you could not hear a pin drop among the 500 people in attendance. If you watch the video, it will probably work for you too:
